Chios Mastiha consists of approximately 80 identified components all of which explain its numerous uses around the globe, in the food, health and cosmetic sector.

It contains a lot of benefits mainly because of it’s many bioactive compounds. The main ones are triterpenic acids (such as isomasticadienolic acid) and triterpenes. Published scientific research indicates that Chios Mastiha exhibits strong antimicrobial, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidation properties.

It was popular with the ancient Romans as a natural breath freshener. It has also been used for hundreds of years as an aromatic spice in many traditional Greek foods, desserts and drinks.
